Laboratory bioassays were conducted to estimate the effectiveness of the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana (Bals.-Criv.) Vuill. (Hypocreales: Cordycipitaceae) at 1.5 × 108 and 1.5 × 1010 conidia/kg grain alone or mixed with the diatomaceous earths (DEs) Protect-It at 150 ppm and DEBBM at 50 ppm against adults of the rusty grain beetle, Cryptolestes ferrugineus Stephens (Coleoptera: Laemophloeidae), the lesser grain borer, Rhyzopertha dominica (F.) (Coleoptera: Bostrychidae), the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum (Herbst) (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) and the psocid, Liposcelis paeta Pearman (Psocoptera: Liposcelididae). The adult insects were exposed to treated grains for 7, 14 and 21 days. For progeny emergence data, the treated units were remained under the same conditions for 62 days for all beetles and 30 days for psocids. The results revealed significant differences in mortalities of insect species among treatments and grains. The combined use of B. bassiana, at the highest dose, and DE increased adult mortalities of all species. In general, the treatments were least effective against T. castaneum and most effective against L. paeta. More numbers of dead insects were found on wheat than on rice or maize. The emergence of progeny was considerably reduced on grains treated with B. bassiana, at the highest dose, plus DE. The results of the present study suggest that the effectiveness of B. bassiana is fortified by the addition of DEs, but it varies among exposed insect species and commodities.  相似文献

Earth Observation (EO) provides a promising approach towards deriving accurate spatiotemporal estimates of key parameters characterizing land surface interactions, such as latent (LE) and sensible (H) heat fluxes as well as soil moisture content. This paper proposes a very simple method to implement, yet reliable to calculate evapotranspiration fraction (EF) and surface moisture availability (Mo) from remotely sensed imagery of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and surface radiometric temperature (Tir). The method is unique in that it derives all of its information solely from these two images. As such, it does not depend on knowing ancillary surface or atmospheric parameters, nor does it require the use of a land surface model. The procedure for computing spatiotemporal estimates of these important land surface parameters is outlined herein stepwise for practical application by the user. Moreover, as the newly developed scheme is not tied to any particular sensor, it can also be implemented with technologically advanced EO sensors launched recently or planned to be launched such as Landsat 8 and Sentinel 3. The latter offers a number of key advantages in terms of future implementation of the method and wider use for research and practical applications alike.  相似文献

Adults of seven stored-product beetle species were exposed on the inside and outside surfaces of polypropylene polymer bags incorporated with the insecticide deltamethrin (approx. concentration of 3000 ppm; ZeroFly® Storage Bags (3 g/kg). Beetles were exposed for 60, 120, and 180 min, and 1, 3 and 5 days on the same treatment arenas, and after the 5 d interval the insects were removed and placed in untreated arenas for 5 more days. All Trogoderma variable (Ballion), the warehouse beetle, Prostephanus truncatus (Horn), the larger grain borer, Rhyzopertha dominica (F.), the lesser grain borer, and Tribolium castaneum (Herbst), the red flour beetle, were knocked down on the outside and inside surfaces of the bag after one hour of exposure. Mortality of T. variable, P. truncatus, and R. dominica increased during the exposure period, with generally lower mortality on the inside versus the outside of the bag after either 3 or 5 days of continual exposure. However, maximum mortality of T. castaneum, the red flour beetle, was only 5.6 ± 3.4% after 5 days of exposure. While it took longer for 100% knockdown of Sitophilus oryzae (L.), the rice weevil, compared to the above species, all S. oryzae were dead after 5 d of exposure on both surfaces. In contrast, after 5 days knockdown of Sitophilus zeamais (Motschlulsky), the maize weevil, did not exceed 30% and there was no mortality. After the Sitophilus species were transferred to untreated arenas, knockdown of all species decreased and mortality increased, indicating delayed mortality and no recovery from knockdown. Mortality of Dermestes maculatus (DeGeer), the hide beetle, did not exceed 5.6% at any time and there was no delayed mortality, indicating a potential tolerance of this particular strain of D. maculatus used in the study. Our results show that the ZeroFly® Storage Bags could effectively limit penetration of stored-product beetles through the bag into stored grains or milled grain products.  相似文献

The auto-confusion system for stored-product pyralid moths, based on the contamination of adult males with the sex female pheromone (Z,E)-9,12-tetradecadienyl acetate (commercially known as TDA or ZETA), was evaluated. For this purpose, we applied Exosex SPTab dispensers that contained the Entostat™ powder, at a 5 × 5 m grid, in three facilities, one feed mill in Italy and two retail stores in Greece. In the feed mill, the most abundant pyralid species was Ephestia kuehniella. Monitoring through pheromone-baited traps in this facility indicated that the application of the Exosex SPTab dispensers decreased the number of captures 2 months after the initial application. In the case of the facilities in Greece, the most abundant species was Plodia interpunctella. In these facilities there was a continuous monitoring of moth populations from January 2008 until February 2011, with pheromone-baited traps and Petri dishes with semolina, which served as oviposition traps. In both facilities, the presence of P. interpunctella males in the pheromone-baited traps was reduced after the placement of the Exosex SPTab dispensers, in comparison to captures for the same interval from the previous years. At the same time, the number of emerging individuals in the oviposition traps was notably reduced after the Exosex SPTab dispensers placement, in comparison to the previous monitoring interval. Our study documents that the auto-confusion system is an effective and reliable technique that can be used with success against stored-product Pyralidae, to retail stores and feed mills.  相似文献

The presence of Clostridium botulinum spores in 59 honey samples originating from different regions of the Republic of Serbia was studied. In addition to microbiological methods, after enrichment, centrifugation and membrane filtration, molecular methods (PCR methods) were utilized. The number of spores in PCR positive samples was estimated by the most probable number (MPN) method. PCR confirmed C. botulinum spores in 5 (8.47%) honey samples. MPN of spores varied from 20/kg to 204/kg honey. PCR was more sensitive than cultural methods. Natural honey contamination with C. botulinum spores is low-level and not homogeneous, and therefore, PCR methods require multiple sub-sampling.  相似文献

Although Trifolium pratense (Red Clover) is considered to be one of the leading crops for livestock grazing, it could also be used as a potential source of bioactive compounds in phytopharmacy. The aim of this study was to investigate the phenolic content and its biological activity at the growth phases (30 cm, 50 cm, and bud) of this plant. The phenolic compounds in methanolic extracts of T. pratense leaves at three growth stages, obtained by Microwave Assisted Extraction, were quantified using the HPLC-ESI-MS/MS technique, and their antioxidant and antimicrobial activity were assessed. Isoflavonoids, genistein, and daidzein, as well as other phenols, p-hydroxybenzoic and caffeic acids, kaempferol 3-O-glucoside, quercetin 3-O-glucoside, and hyperoside were found in all the extracts, but the content of these compounds was the highest in the extract of the plant at the lowest growth stage (30 cm, vegetative). Therefore, this extract showed the best antioxidant potential and it was most effective against bacterial strains such as Escherichia coli and Enterobacter aerogenes. These results indicated that red clover has potential health benefits, and that growth phase contributes to its biological activity. The extract of red clover at the growth stage of 30 cm is a great source of bioactive compounds and could be used in phytotherapy and nutrition.  相似文献

In the present work we evaluated the effect of alpha-cypermethrin, pirimiphos-methyl and spinetoram on field and laboratory strains of Sitophilus oryzae (L.) and Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.) with different susceptibility levels to phosphine. The field populations were collected from storage facilities in Greece and were characterized as resistant by using the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) protocol, based on the same protocol, populations were characterized as susceptible to phosphine. The insecticides were applied at three dose rates (0.1, 1 and 10 ppm) on wheat and adult mortality was measured after 7, 14 and 21 days of exposure, while progeny production was assessed 65 days later. For S. oryzae populations, complete control was noted at the highest dose on pirimiphos-methyl and spinetoram, while mortality caused by alpha-cypermethrin was 62 and 100% for the field and laboratory populations, respectively. For O. surinamensis, complete control was recorded at the highest dose only on alpha-cypermethrin for the laboratory population, in contrast with the field population, where mortality was only 32% after 21 days of exposure. In general, the variations among populations were negligible for spinetoram, probably due to the fact that the populations tested were not previously exposed to this active ingredient. In contrast, the lowest susceptibility of the field populations to the other two insecticides can be attributed to the fact that these populations might have been exposed to these active ingredients, while any hypothesis for cross-resistance with phosphine has to be examined more thoroughly.  相似文献

A study is under way to evaluate the feasibility, costs, and benefits of co-milling and direct injection cofiring of switchgrass with coal as a potential renewable energy source. Switchgrass is an American native prairie grass, ideally adapted to the eastern United States. The grass is highly productive, requires little fertilization and herbicide, and can be grown on marginal land. There are four phases in the study, which look at (1) farm production issues, (2) pilot co-milling, (3) pilot combustion tests, and (4) full-scale demonstration. To date, good data have been obtained on farm production costs and field processing and handling issues. Pilot-scale milling tests and combustion tests of blends of switchgrass with coal have been successfully completed, and a full-scale demonstration of direct pneumatic injection of switchgrass for co-firing in a pulverized coal boiler is planned for the spring of 2001.  相似文献

Effects of kernel size on grain sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] quality were studied in an experiment designed to separate effects of kernel size from seedlot. The study utilized three sieve fractions of varying kernel diameter (>3.35, >2.80 and >2.36 mm) from six seedlots. Chemical composition, physical characteristics, milling characteristics, pasting properties, and cooking qualities were determined for each kernel size fraction. Large kernels lost less relative mass during 1 min of decortication, were higher in protein concentration, and lower in ash. Milling yields were higher from large kernels, and flour from large kernels had higher water absorbance, brighter white color, and larger particle size. Kernel size effects on Rapid Visco Analyzer (RVA) properties were not consistent. These results suggest that within the sorghum seedlots studied, an increase in kernel size is associated with an increase in sorghum quality as defined by the parameters measured in this study.  相似文献
